Why food supplements?

A healthy diet with fresh, wholesome ingredients paves the way to optimum health. But sometimes, for a variety of reasons, people may also need additional support in the form of health supplements to get essential nutrients, to correct nutritional deficiencies and to improve their health.
The body absorbs from food and supplements only a certain amount of nutrients and micronutrients.

What could be those reasons?

Poor absorption and low bioavailability.
For instance, Resveratrol and Curcumin supplements offer incredible health benefits, but they tend to be limited by their poor absorption and low bioavailability.

Decreasing of production by the body.
It is also possible that the production of antioxidants slows down during aging.
An example is Glutathione.
Glutathione is one of the most important antioxidants our body makes on its own, but its production decreases while aging. So, taking it in supplement form seems to be the most logical way to maintain healthy levels to help our body maintain its anti-oxidant status.

Decreasing of absorption by the body.
Not only the production of antioxidants may slow down during aging, also absorbing of various nutrients, especially B12 and Magnesium may have trouble over 60.

Condition of the digestive tract.
Also the health of the digestive tract may have an effect on the availability of nutrients. Conditions like Crohn’s, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and Celiac disease may affect the absorption of nutrients in the body (either obtained from food or supplements).

Use of medications.
The use of some medications may limit the absorption of B12 and some minerals like Magnesium and Iron. Medication against Diabetic, also may interfere with the absorption of Vitamin B12, so a deficiency of B12 as a result.
At long use of antibiotics may also have impacts on the bio-availability, because antibiotics destroy not only the bad bacteria in the gut but also the good bacteria.

Better absorption by use of combination of nutrients.
The absorption of some vitamins and minerals tends to go better when they are consumed along with other nutrients. For example, Vitamin C helps the absorption of Iron and Magnesium may be needed to properly use of Vitamin D.

So there are several reasons to use supplements.

But do these supplements really work?

In order to have the desired health benefits, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants must arrive at the target cells and tissues.
For this reason it is very important to choose for a supplement which is in a form that increases the absorption by making them available in our cells and bloodstreams.

And that is being realised by Liposomal supplements.
